Do Any Good Deeds Wipe Out Bad Deeds In God's Judgment? Romans 5:8

Where does the Bible teach a good deed wipes out a bad deed?

"So then,as through one trespass there is condemnation for everyone, so also through one righteous act there is life giving justification foe everyone. Romans 5:18.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND
One man, Adam, sinned against the clear command of his Creator. The results were expulsion from the Garden of Eden, but worse than that death entered the human race with the prospect of eternal judgment.

THE ONE RIGHTEOUS ACT
God is merciful and full of grace so he offers the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. In Jesus God offers more than Adam had in the garden.  In Jesus, the condemnation was taken care of by his death. There is no longer the threat of judgment since Christ took the judgment for us.

One man, Adam, did one act of rebellion and brought all mankind into a state of spiritual death. In contrast, one man, Jesus, did one greater act of obedience and offers all mankind spiritual life.

EVERYONE
The sin of Adam has been an inheritance passed onto every human being giving us a nature that sins. The death of Jesus which paid for our sins is good for every human being giving us an offer of forgiveness and eternal life.

God offers the gift of salvation to all who are willing to receive it. It is not based on our righteous acts or good deeds but on the basis of His righteous act where he obeyed the father and accepted our punishment on himself.

Only one good deed ever wiped out a bad deed and Jesus already did it when he died to pay for all our bad deeds. The good deed Jesus did on our behalf is available to us if we receive it.

To learn how to receive the Gift of God's Good deed see the tab above for the Gospel.

How Many Good Deeds Do You Have To Do To Be Saved And Go to Heaven? Romans 4:5

Many people think that if they do enough good deeds or acts of kindness, or charity that it will outweigh the bad they have done and then they will earn a place in heaven. It is surprising but the Bible teaches only one good deed will get you into heaven.

"And to the one who does not work but believes in him (God) who justifies the ungodly his faith is counted for righteousness."   Romans 4:5. *

DOES NOT WORK
No matter how much good you do it is not enough. God is so holy that even our best efforts are still stained before His absolute justice. Millions of acts of kindness and charity will not erase a single sin in his eyes.

BELIEVES IN HIM
We do not need to labor for salvation but accept the gift of it. "For it is by grace you have been saved through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9.  God offers salvation as a free gift.

THE GOOD DEED DONE
When God came in the flesh as Jesus he lived a sinless life. The wages of our sin is death and since Jesus was sinless our sins were put on him and his righteousness is offered to any who will receive it. His resurrection proves that the payment is complete and the judgment for sins is done away with.

COUNTED
When we believe what God has done for us we are given the credit of Jesus' death on our behalf. God asks us to believe him, He does not ask us to work to earn salvation but to live good deeds as an expression of the salvation we were given as a gift.

BELIEVE
To believe is to trust. If you are looking for salvation you must trust in what God has done for you and accept it. Many people express trust verbally in a prayer. If you have not yet trusted God for salvation through Jesus do so now.

Are You Ungodly And Is There Hope?

If a person is ungodly is there any hope for them to escape God's judgment? The Bible offers hope.

For while we were still helpless at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:6.

HELPLESS
Our sin makes us helpless.  This is helplessness before the eternal all righteous judge. We are all helpless because God is holy and he must have a holy standard; such a standard would be too high for any one. So if you lived a thousand years and only did one sin you would be helpless. (Adam had only one command, he broke it and was cast out of the garden and the effects of sin began the decay of death in him.)

DIED
Our sin deserves judgment and punishment but Our Father in Heaven is loving and instead of condemning us for eternity he took our place. God became a man we know as Jesus who was righteous and lived a life without sin. Having no sin to answer for he could offer his perfect life up for us.

UNGODLY
The simplest way to think of this word is to think of it meaning the opposite of what God is. We were opposed to God in nature and our actions even our inactions.

HOPE
If a person is ungodly there is hope since this verse says specifically that The Lord died for him. If God loves him enough to die for him then he loves him enough to accept him. The gospel is available to him and he may yet be a saint.

How Good Do You Have To Be For God

How good do you have to be before you are sure you are right with God?  If going to heaven is by being good how good is good enough?

These are important questions. The Bible answers them.

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this; While we were still sinners Christ died for us." Romans 5:8, NIV.

God is full of action, he just doesn't feel love for us he demonstrates it. His love compels him to act. His love is proven by his actions. You can't say, "God, prove you love me," because he already did when he sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for us.

This love is Gods own love, it is not like human love. We often think of love as a sweet sentimental feeling, but when it comes to God love is active. God's love is powerful, merciful, gracious, and a million things more. When we trust Jesus as our savor we know the love God has for us- a love that is mighty.

He didn't wait for us to become good, beautiful, holy, or better people. He died for us while we were still sinful rebels who opposed his will and violated his commands. While we were his enemies he died for us. No matter what wicked horrible thing we did it does not need to keep us from God since Jesus already took care of it on the cross.

Christ is the word for savor. His death paid for our sins which required the ultimate sacrifice. If anyone was to be saved Jesus had to die for the wicked. He willingly endured the wrath and judgment for our wrongs. He did not wait for us to be good enough for him to die for us; because none of us would ever be good enough for the Son of God to die for them.

You do not need to do good things to get right with God but when you trust Jesus as savor you will start to do good things because you are right with God.
