We want a place in heaven, we hope we will not go to some place of damnation, but can we know for sure? Jesus has the answer.
"My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so would I have told you I am going to prepare a place for you?" John 14:2.
HOUSE
This was both a metaphor for heaven and a parable from the times since the first-century Israelite bridegroom would build a room in the annex to the father's house and after it was ready he would get the bride.
MANY ROOMS
The phrase of many rooms gives the hope that there is welcome and acceptance; no matter where you come from or what you have done, God has a welcome for you,
I AM GOING
Jesus is the one who makes salvation possible. He didn't say in my father's house are many rooms and here is what you have to do to make one yours. He said he was going to make one ready for you. He is the one who makes salvation available for people.
To say, I am going, is a phrase that is full of commitment and purpose, Jesus knew what he was doing and that it was going to cost him everything yet he resolved to do it and make salvation for us.
PREPARE
He is doing the work, he makes the preparation. We feel that we need to do something to get saved but Jesus did it all. He lived a perfect sinless life, died to be our substitute for sin and his resurrection gives testimony that God is satisfied with the payment for our sins. All we have to do is to believe and receive the gift of salvation that Jesus has bought for us at a great price.
